My chihuahua has swollen, watery eyes and won't eat. Home care?

This presentation is likely to be due to the so called ''cherry eye''. This defect causes the lacrimal gland to prolapse and protrude from the eye as a red fleshy mass. Since this is still going on and not getting better, you need to take her to the vet as soon as possible. There are a number of injuries she could have, including fractures to her head or neck that are likely responsible for the pain and the droopy face and swelling. She could have a broken or displaced jaw that causes pain, making her reluctant to eat. This doesn't seem to be improving so she needs medical attention right away. Your vet will do an exam, x-rays, possibly additional labwork, and based on these results, will be better able to tell you what is going on and how best to treat it.

Poor Mouse! I would start with flushing it out with some artificial tear drops twice a day and give her some Benadryl twice a day. If it isn't improving or if she is favoring that eye or if there is any discharge from that eye, I would have your vet take a look at it. Hello. This sounds like a Carnassial tooth root abscess ( 4th upper premolar ). This is a very common dental infection & usually means the tooth needs to be removed. At the very least, he definitely needs to be started on antibiotics & needs a good dental cleaning. Once done, these things tend to heal up very nicely. This looks like very severe allergies or a condition like mange though other possibilities like immune mediated disease still have to be considered. This can be differentiated based on physical examination and basic diagnostics. This must be really painful and for that reason I highly recommend that you have Callie evaluated by a veterinarian for further assessment and treatment as soon as possible. Her decreased appetite is likely due to discomfort. They would be able to check for these possibilities and most importantly, treat her accordingly. If she has been scratching at her eyes, I highly recommend using an e-collar to prevent further self trauma. Good luck and have a good night!

Withhold food for 12-24 hours, then feed a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) and white rice in small amounts several times a day for a couple of days. Then slowly add back in his normal diet. If the vomiting continues in the absence of food, he vomits the bland diet, he refuses to eat the bland diet, he develops diarrhea, stops drinking water, starts vomiting water, or becomes very lethargic, he will need to see a vet right away.
