My dog's paw is swollen and painful. Why won't she put weight on it?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Yorkshire Terrier | Female | unspayed | 6 lbs

My dogs paw seems to be hurting her. When I checked it out it looks like she might have hurt it or got bit by something? I’m not really sure what it is. Could it be yeast build up? She doesn’t like to put pressure on it.

I recommend to have Myers examined by the veterinarian. From the photo, it looks like there is a swollen area and this often indicates an abscess or a foreign object trapped under the skin.

Myer is also in pain (that;s why she won;t use the paw). The doctor may need to lance that area to relieve pressure and put Myer on medication. You also need to prevent any trauma and she should wear an elizabethan collar at all times.

I hope this helps and please feel free to post any additional questions.
