My dog's nose is swollen. What natural remedies help tooth pain/infection?

You can use a hot compress on the area to see if you can get the infection to drain. That should help relieve some of the pain. While I prefer to use specific dog pain medications you can give aspirin to help with the pain. I give it with a meal. There is a section on this website with information about common over the counter medications that you can give and the recommended dosage. The veterinarian will probably put Chico on antibiotics and schedule a dental cleaning with an extraction if needed. I’m glad you are taking him in soon as this is quite painful. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! This may be due to an infection of a tooth for example, a mass or even an allergic reaction. It is not possible to know with just a picture. However, it is not recommended to give a dog Advil as this is not used in veterinary medicine due to its possible toxicity especially without possibly an appropriate dose. There is not much you can do at home without going to a veterinarian. For that reason, I recommend you consider going to your veterinarian for further assessment and possible treatment. They will start with a physical examination and possibly diagnostics depending on what the issue seems to be. I would add that I think it's unlikely for a tooth root abscess to cause the eye to actually pop out (Proptose) however without definitive treatment the problem (the bulging and the infection) are going to get worse. Having that pocket of infection in the gum will likely cause the bacteria to translocate to the bloodstream, where it could cause other problems, including with the heart and the liver. I would consider seeking another opinion, perhaps of a veterinary dentist. I have anesthetized many, many older dogs for tooth removal, and my personal opinion is that removing diseased teeth is necessary. If Enzo has blood work prior to surgery, and possibly even a chest x-ray to check his heart and lungs, in the hands of a qualified veterinarian who is confident with anesthesia and dentistry he will likely do fine. If you don't have the tooth removed, your only other alternative is using antibiotics in a "pulse" fashion, such as 3 weeks on antibiotics, followed by 1 week off. Clindamycin is sometimes used in this fashion, but again, results are suboptimal and the infection within the root pocket will never completely resolve - it may improve, but it won't resolve.

Your dog may have an injury caused by some of the chew sticks, or a broken tooth. Other possibilities could be an abscess, or an insect bite, allergy or trauma. If the swelling does not go down by itself within 24 hrs, you should take your dog to a veterinarian for an exam. Please do not give aspirin to your dog as it could cause gastric ulcers, bleeding ulcers and coagulation disorders.

Unfortunately, there really isn't much you can do about this at home - there are no over-the-counter human pain medications that are safe for use in dogs, so your best option is to give him soft food until you're able to get him in to see the vet. He/she can take a closer look at his mouth, and can get him started on pain meds and antibiotics as well as scheduling a dental procedure to extract the painful tooth.

Since she isn't responding to antibiotics I would worry that she has a tooth root abscess, a nasal tumor or a fungal infection in her nasal cavity. I would do full blood work and then sedated her to take skull X-rays and X-ray the teeth on that side of her face. I hope this helps and I wish Neo the very best!

Hello. This sounds like a Carnassial tooth root abscess ( 4th upper premolar ). This is a very common dental infection & usually means the tooth needs to be removed. At the very least, he definitely needs to be started on antibiotics & needs a good dental cleaning. Once done, these things tend to heal up very nicely.
