My dog has a swollen eye, can I help her at home before the vet?

Oh no, that's not good at all! Her eyes are extremely swollen and unfortunately without seeing her in person, I can't say what is causing it. Any eye problem is an emergency because leaving it untreated can lead to vision loss. I would take her into a vet immediately to get this diagnosed and treated. Please take her into an ER vet clinic; if there isn't one in your area, there will be a vet on call for emergencies. Poor Molly! You did the right thing by cleaning the cut off when you first noticed it. Yes, if it is looking a bit swollen and red, and she is blinking her eye more than normal, I would recommend taking her to the vet tomorrow to have this checked - these can be signs of infection, so it sounds like she may need a course of antibiotics to help resolve the problem.

This looks like a swelling of Poppy's conjunctiva as opposed to the eye itself. It could be due to an allergic reaction or infection such as conjunctivitis. She will need eye drops and antinflammatories to settle this down so go to your vet as soon as you can. In the mean time pressing a cooled tea bag on the outside of the eye can provide some relief.

I am so sorry to hear about your dog. It sounds like you have done all you are going to be able to do for her at home. I would recommend a visit to the emergency vet if there is one in your area, if not see your vet first thing in the morning as she is likely going to need oral antibiotics as well as pain medication, and should have the eye examined to be sure there was no damage to the eye itself. Continue to ice the area to help with pain and swelling until she is seen. You can take a bag of frozen peas or corn and wrap in a thin cloth/towel (don't put the ice pack directly on the skin with no barrier in between) for 5-10 minutes every few hours if she will tolerate this. Do not give any over the counter pain medication because these can be poorly tolerated by dogs and may cause more harm than good.

Poor girl. Because she is keeping her eye closed, it is very likely she has a scratch or ulcer on her cornea (eye surface). Because of this type of injury, Suziee Lu will need to see your vet to have the eye checked. If there is a scratch, as suspected, then she will need topical prescription eye medication to get this to heal properly. It is ok to wipe the outside of the lid with warm salt water until you can get her in to your vet for further care. Poor Sassy! That is very swollen. If it is just the eyelid that is affected, it should be fine to wait until tomorrow to take her to the vet, but if anything gets worse overnight, I would take her right in. If you see signs such as squinting, redness, drainage from the eye, or a cloudiness in the clear part of the eye, I would take her in tonight. Injuries to the eyeball can be very serious and get worse very quickly. I hope this helps and that Sassy gets better very soon!

Poor Lolly! Unfortunately it is hard to say what could be causing the issue without seeing Lolly or a picture of her eye. However, eye issues can quickly turn into emergencies and are often best treated as early as possible. I recommend having Lolly seen by a vet if you are concerned.
