Why is my male dog swollen above his testicles and below his anus?

This is probably a prostate disease (cancer or infection), this is common in unneautered older dogs, the vet will check the prostate, if it is enlarged he will need to have an ultrasound or CT done to find out if it is a cancer or an infection, he will need to be neutered ASAP.

I do recommend he is seen by a vet to determine what’s going on. Being an older, intact male, I would be worried about something going on in his testicles or prostate. In the meantime, you could try applying a cold compress to his scrotum for 10-15 minutes a few times today to see if that helps with the swelling. After 24 hours, I would switch to a warm compress (not hot). If that doesn’t improve, I would recommend an exam. Good luck and kisses to Cutler!

That is abnormal. He could have an infection or mass in the testicle. I recommend neutering him and sending the abnormal testicle for a biopsy to determine the diagnosis. In a dog Buster's age, this swelling could be due to a tumor. It could also be due to an infection. The only way to know what is causing this is to have him seen by a vet. I'd take him into one in the morning.

Swollen testicles and a bloated belly can signs of edema or ascites and can indicate many things including heart disease or an infection. I recommend have Aldan visit his veterinarian today. This could be caused by a local inflammation and possibly an infection. Persistent licking and rubbing can worsen the inflammation. A check up, appropriate disinfection and possibly anti-inflammatory ointment are needed to solve the problem. At home, some zinc oxide ointment/cream (like sudocream) can be apply twice daily. Buster collar may be useful as well to avoid any licking (if any). I see that your dog is unneutered - one condition that can come on suddenly and be extremely painful is called testicular torsion. Basically, one of the testicles becomes twisted inside the scrotal sac, cutting off the blood supply and causing swelling and intense pain. Based on your description, I would be concerned about this possibility and would recommend getting your dog to a vet as soon as possible, since he is in a lot of distress and there is really nothing that can be done at home to help. Other possibilities would include a scrotal or testicular infection, a tumor, or even a scrotal hernia.
