My dog swallowed a pom pom a week ago and is now vomiting. What to do?

Wow, that was definitely stuck there for a while and it must have just came unstuck. This is quite unusual and means that there was a partial blockage the whole time. Complete blockages and sometimes partial blockage can cause life-threatening complications, but Rocko does not appear to be having those signs. If he is eating, drinking and defecating OK, then there is no need to rush him to the vet at this time. If he does become blocked, he would stop eating, stop defecating, vomit and would generally be appearing depressed. If you notice the combination of those signs happening, then he should go to the vet right away. I hope that helps and Rocko gets better soon.

Induction of vomiting is only helpful if it is within a couple hours or if it is in the stomach and hasn't passed. At this time, I would not recommend induction of vomiting. I would take Rocket in to the vet for x-rays and/or ultrasound which will help determine if there is something still in the stomach or provide a baseline to be used for comparison should he start to feel sick. Watch him closely over the next few days for lethargy, decreased appetite, gagging, or vomiting, which would warrant immediate vet attention.

I am not sure why she is vomiting now. It is possible that the vomiting is completely unrelated to the popsicle stick. These types of foreign bodies often stay in the stomach without any symptoms for weeks or even months until they get stuck. Though it is good news that it came up and now that isn't a worry! Only offer small amounts of water and no food for 12 hours. Vomiting and inappetence can occur from many conditions such as foreign body ingestion and obstruction, pancreatitis, gastroenteritis, dietary indiscretion, among other possibilities. I am concerned that he could be showing signs of an obstruction which is something that requires therapy which sometimes includes surgery. I recommend that you have Jager evaluated by a veterinarian at this point for further assessment and treatment. This will likely require bloodwork and abdominal imaging in terms of diagnostics. Treatment would be based on findings. At the very least your veterinarian could start him on medications to make him feel better. Stuffing can act as a gastrointestinal foreign body that results in obstruction of the bowels. If vomiting is persistent, this is a strong indication that there may be either a partial or complete obstruction preventing food and water from moving forward in the GI tract. An abdominal x-ray would be the next best step to determine if your pet has a radiographic abdominal pattern consistent with obstruction. This should be done asap (as in today), because dehydration and irritation/trauma to the GI tract will continue worsening the longer it is present. If there is an obstruction, abdominal surgery may be necessary to remove it. And that's the case, we want your pet to be as stable as possible for the surgery. The longer the delay, the more weak and dehydrated your pet will be, and thus potentially less stable for surgery. In the meantime, I would offer only a small volume of water at a time, to see if your pet can keep it down without vomiting. I wish you both the best of luck!

There isn't a way to remove it again. I don't recommend making Joy vomit since this isn't safe. Even though some of it came up, there is likely more that was left in the stomach. You should watch Joy closely over the next week. If she isn't eating well, continues to vomit, or is lethargic, she may have an intestinal blockage and you should call your vet.

Since Panda ate some foam padding yesterday and has ben vomiting and eating less, my main concern is that he has developed a stomach or intestinal obstruction. He needs to see a vet immediately for an exam and abdominal x-rays to try to determine if he is obstructed. Foreign body obstructions are a surgical emergency. I hope he's on the mend soon!
