Help! My dog swallowed chewing gum. Is it toxic or life-threatening?

Yes this could be life threatening if the Extra was sugar free and contains xylitol. Xylitol is highly toxic to dogs and is fatal without treatment. Because I'm not sure if the Extra Oliver ate contain xylitol, and if you aren't sure either, the best thing to do is rush him into the vet immediately. I would be suspicious of gum causing this. Gum can contain an artificial sweetener known as xylitol that can artificially lower the blood sugar in dogs and cause liver damage. In these cases, it's recommended to give the dog an IV glucose solution and monitoring for 24 hours. Unfortunately, this requires a visit to the vet. Without knowing more, I am just guessing that this is gum. It seems like some sort of poisoning is possible though, so I think either way the best thing to do is take Goose to a vet as soon as possible, or he could have life-threatening complications.
