My house-trained dog suddenly pees inside when I leave & yelps. Why?

Poor Riley (and you!)! Riley could be urinating in the house because of a medical issue, such as a urinary tract infection, crystals in the urine or bladder stones. Behavioral stressors, such as a change in her normal routine, can trigger inappropriate urination in some pets. As a first step, Riley should be seen by her vet and have a urinalysis performed to check for the presence of infection and crystals. A urinary tract infection requires antibiotics and crystals may require a diet change. If medical issues are ruled out, consider using a calming pheromone diffuser or collar (Adaptil is one example).

There could be a medical reason as to why Chevy is suddenly urinating in the home. This could be caused by a UTI or bladder stones. I would give your vet a call today to set up an appointment for her to be seen by her vet. The vet can do a physical exam, blood tests, and a urinalysis to diagnose if she does have a medical cause behind her urinating in the home, and can prescribe a treatment for it. I would recommend to rule out something like an infection in Presley's bladder before you give up on her. Since she can't talk, you don't know the reasoning behind this behavior. The veterinarian will look at her urine sample to see if there are any abnormalities which may cause this behavior. Go from there. If it does look to be more behavioral, speak with a trainer, read some books about housebreaking difficult dogs. Most dogs can be properly housebroken but not all learn in the same fashion. Hi there and thanks for your question. I'm sorry Buddy is having this issue. If he is not neutered, it may be related to a prostate issue. Neutering will help this quite a bit if he is not neutered. Otherwise, if he is an older dog, he may be yelping due to arthritis in his joints as he stands to urinate. This would also help explain his disinterest in walks. I hope this helps!

Although not very common in male dogs, urinary tract infections can still occur in males. Primary urinary incontinence can occur in males, although more common in spayed females. I would recommend having a veterinarian examine Stanley and test his urine to see if there is any evidence of a bacterial infection. If the urine is normal, then I would recommend having his blood tested to see if there are any abnormalities.
