Why is my lab mix suddenly aggressive with my pit mix after neutering?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Large (61lb +) | Male | neutered | 1 year and 3 months old | 65 lbs

Within the last month my lab mix has grown more and more "aggressive" with my pit mix. They were fine together until I neutered the pit mix. My lab mix has been neutered since before I brought home the pit mix. I want to understand his change in behavior towards my pit mix and what I can do.

The lowered testosterone levels following the neuter could be making the pit less dominant and the lab is now trying to assert his dominance in the “pack”. There are some great resources on www.draophiayin.com that discuss aggression. You may also want to consider working with a veterinary behaviorist to resolve this issue. You can find one in your area on www.acvb.org.
