Why is my dog suddenly stumbling, falling, and shaking his head?

Poor Shaggy. It sounds like it could be a few possible things. A toxin? Got in to a medication? Marijuana? Low blood sugar? Some other neurologic condition. Hard to say. But this could be serious. With these signs I recommend going to the ER. Also check all over the house for anything Shaggy could have gotten in to!

Some dogs will move while they are asleep and dreaming, but walking like a drunk is not normal, and Max needs to be seen by a veterinarian immediately for assessment. That sounds as though it may be a neurological problem, as some types of seizures can look like that. Please have Max seen by a veterinarian for evaluation, and take in a video of his behaviour if possible. That is very unusual. There are several things that come to mind that could cause the signs. Ingesting toxins, an inner ear infection, stroke or viral infections are all possible. Anytime a pet appears off-balance you should be concerned and I recommend to take Nigel in to see a veterinarian right away. The doctor will need to perform a few basic tests to try to figure out the cause of the imbalance. Treatment will depend on the cause. Best of luck and I hope this is helpful. Little Baby Boy needs to see the veterinarian quickly. Weakness/neurological signs are never normal and can indicate many things including toxin ingestion, drug exposure, an infection in the brain, low blood sugar, a middle ear infection or liver dysfunction. Vestibular disease affects older dog but an infection in the middle ear is similar. A stroke would be very unlikley unless he got into certain medication or had a congenital abnormality. Also, yes, there are classic presentations to these diseases but not all pets read the book about how they should look so other presentations are possible. A physical exam and bloodwork is needed to begin figuring out the cause and the best treatment. Other diagnostics may also be indicated. I hope it's nothing too serious and that he gets back to normal quickly.

What you are describing sounds like "ataxia," which may be due to a variety of reasons, including an inner ear infection, a neurologic issue, an underlying medical issue (such as low blood sugar), or another underlying issue.
