My dog got stuck with a dirty needle. Should I worry about disease?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

So my older brother has a blood infection that went septic . he uses needles to inject illegal drugs into him self. He left one of his used dirty needles in his car. My dog jumped in his car and got stuck with it. I had to pull it out. Can my dog get a disease ?? Or get septic poisoning ???

It is unlikely that anything will affect your dog, even though the puncture wound should be ideally checked by your local veterinarian.
A check up, appropriate disinfection and possibly antibiotics (oral, topical or in a shampoo formulation) are needed to solve the problem.
Disinfection may be started at home with very diluted hibiscrub or betadine or salted water baths. Buster collar may be useful as well to avoid any licking/scratching.
