Why is my elderly dog struggling to walk and poop with a tail growth?

Oh my. Poor girl. This is either a hernia or a really badly infected anal gland. I would highly recommend taking her to your vet asap to have this evaluated. Difficulty walking is a situation that always warrants a visit to your veterinarian. We could have a musculoskeletal injury or a neurological issue, such as a herniated/slipped disk in the spine compressing the spinal cord. Your vet can do an examination to see if there are neurological deficits and may also recommend an x-ray to help determine the cause of the trouble walking, and if it is related to the swelling of the tail. Limber tail doesn't normally cause a swelling of the tail, but can cause the tail to be carried strangles, where it will stick out for an inch or two and then hang down limply. If the tail is truly swollen I would be more worried about an injury and x-ray may be needed.

The first recommendation would be to have Storm physically examined by your veterinarian to diagnose illness or injury. Depending on the diagnosis, treatment may be possible and feasible to make him comfortable. If not, as difficult as it may be, you may need to think about euthanasia to prevent pain or poor quality of life. These decisions are never easy or simple, especially when you have a very senior pet who is ill.

I am very sorry to hear about your dog. What you are describing sounds like most likely a tumor. There are many different types of tumors. Two of the more common we see in this area are lipomas, which are fatty tumors and feel soft/squishy, and sarcomas which are firmer feeling. Unfortunately it sounds like this is large and causing her problems. She needs a visit to the vet's office to examine the tumor and see if it can be surgically removed. They may want to take an x-ray and may want to do what is called a "fine needle aspirate" to collect cells to try to identify the type of tumor before surgery.

It sounds like Bheem has a few things going on at the moment. Unfortunately, in a senior dog, a large bump could be a malignant tumor. It could also be due to a cyst or a benign tumor. Given that he's having trouble standing up, he would have problems with his hips, spine, and joints, which is common in giant breed dogs. He could be suffering from arthritis or degenerative joint disease. I would have him seen by a vet right away for these problems. The vet can diagnose what is causing his problems and can discuss treatment options without you.

This is huge and looks extremely painful, it is impossible to tell from a picture exactly what the underlying nature of it is (most likely a cancerous tumor but could potentially be a hernia) but either way it must be severely compromising her quality of life and causing undue suffering. I would recommend euthanasia as soon as possible, there would be no guarantee that surgery would be succesful at this stage and would extremely invasive and painful outside of cost

I would be concerned that this lump could be a malignant tumor, and it's clearly bothering Chloe if she won't let you touch it. I would take her into a vet now to get this checked out. Best of luck.
