Why is my dog struggling to move and yelping on his rear legs?

It sounds like Bonbon may have hurt himself, and yes I would be worried since this is not normal behavior. It could also be that he is suffering from arthritis, which can be common in senior dogs. I'd give his vet a call in the morning to have him examined. If he is suffering from arthritis, the vet can prescribe pain medications for him. Please do not give him any human pain medications, as many are toxic to dogs and can be fatal if given. Best of luck, I hope this helps!

Poor Ben! E definitely sounds like he could be in pain. Being this painful, it sounds like he needs to be seen. Your vet will able to localize the pain and doing X-rays if needed. They will be able to get him in meds to relieve the pain. I do not recommend giving any humans pain meds as most of them are toxic to dogs. I hope this helps!

Based on the weakness and symptoms that you are describing it is possible that Bentley may be experiencing some mild pain from arthritis or could have strained a muscle/tendon. It is also possible that Bentley's back could be sore as this usually leads to signs of weakness in the hind limbs; however, this type of injury is much more common in smaller breed dogs. If Bentley's signs are more mild and he is otherwise acting ok I would recommend continuing to monitor him for the next 24-48 hours. If this weakness or soreness do not go away I would recommend having him seen by your veterinarian so that they can perform an examination and look for any sources of pain. The fact she cries out when you touch her there and when trying to get up indicates back end pain. Some dogs with anal gland issues or Lyme disease can show similar symptoms. I would have her seen today by your Vet before the weekend. They will very likely on physical exam be able to tell where she hurts. This could be due to joint pain or lower back discomfort. An exam with your veterinarian would be required to diagnose the exact cause. X-rays of the hind limbs, hips and lower spine may be recommended after the physical exam. Afterwards, your vet may dispense medication for pain relief. Do not medicate Bullet without speaking with your vet first. Many OTC medications can be toxic to dogs. In the meantime, restrict activity to just leash walks for elimination and avoid excessive running, jumping or rough play.

This could be from a tail injury, or back pain. Generally with arthritis they don’t cry out in pain. I’d give him a few days to see if this gets better on its own, then if he’s still that painful I recommend a veterinary exam and pain medication. Possibilities are a back strain or sprain, Lyme disease, or hip dysplasia. An exam and hip X-rays could help determine what might be going on.
