My dog has a strange spot. Could it be ringworm or another skin issue?

I'm so sorry but it is very difficult for us to give advice without seeing this spot. Can you post again with some photos? This spot could be anything from ringworm, a bacterial or yeast infection, an autoimmune disease, solar dermatitis, etc. If we could see some photos we can help you better. Thanks.

Hello there. Thank you for using PetCoach and thank you for including photos. My best guess is that this is ringworm. It does not look like a bite. I suggest you get Molekin' to your vet for an exam and to get a proper diagnosis for two reasons. Number one, ringworm is contagious to people and number two, an adult dog that gets ringworm usually has an underlying problem with their immune system. An adult dog should not get it. This is much more common in puppies. Remember, it is impossible for me to diagnose over the internet with just a photo. I am just giving my best guess. Many skin diseases look similar to the naked eye so that is why testing is important. It may take 2+ months for it to clear completely up but you should start noticing a difference in a .couple weeks. If you don't have any improvement in 2 weeks or it worsens then you definitely need to get him to the vet. This is suspicious of ringworm (a fungal infection of the skin). This could also be due to a yeast or bacteria infection. It's best to get it diagnosed by a veterinarian, because ringworm can spread to different parts of the body and can spread to people. Also, the more involved the infection, the longer it will take to clear. For now, I recommend washing your hands anytime you touch Rexi. I'm really sorry but it is impossible to tell anything from the photos. I do appreciate you trying to post them though! They are very grainy especially when I try to enlarge them. I can't tell if it is a wound, a ringworm lesion or what. I don't think I would be "worried" but I would concerned enough to get her to your vet for an exam. If it is ringworm, it can be transmitted from cats to humans. You need to know what the lesion is before starting any treatment. You are welcome to post again with better photos but please understand it is impossible for us to diagnose (and it is also against the law) over the internet so you will likely get the same response. This could be ringworm ,this could also be mites or a bacterial infection, you will need to take him to the vet in order to find out what it is exactly as it is impossible to tell from a picture alone.

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! This could be due to ringworm. This could also be just a focal skin bacterial infection, among other possibilities. I recommend that you have Tika evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. They would be able to check for these possibilities and treat accordingly. Ringworm can be transmitted to humans so just in case this is what is going with Tika, wear gloves when handling this lesion. Good luck and best wishes!

i am sorry to hear about your dog! It is very difficult to evaluate the skin by a photograph but it appears there is a defect/wound in the skin here? I would be concerned that this was an abscess that ruptures, a wound that isn't healing and is infected, or we could have something like a cuterebra (a fly larvae that lives in a hole in the skin- look closely and see if you see a tiny creature moving inside the hole!). I would recommend a visit to your vet- the area may need to be flushed/cleaned and have antibiotics prescribed. In the meantime, I would put an e-collar on your dog or a t-shirt if it would be covered by this to prevent your dog from licking/aggravating the skin. You can also clean the area with a mild soap or Hibiclens (available at the drug store) and apply an antibiotic ointment like polysporin to the area until your vet can see him.
