What is this pink, hairless, tough spot on my dog's muzzle?

If you are posting photos they are not coming through. There must be a glitch in the system. I apologize for that but unfortunately I cannot comment much without a photo. All I can say is that many skin diseases look the same. The only way you are going to get a diagnosis is by taking her to the vet and having an exam and some testing done. Even if I saw the photo I would just be guessing. In a younger dog the most common things to cause a hairless spot are ringworm and mange but there are other possibilities. Sorry, that is the best I can tell you right now. Maybe try posting again tomorrow and hopefully the photos will be showing up.

If it is the area near the nose that has less hair or the 2 white/pink spots. I do not think anything about the picture is life threatening unless I am missing your concerns. Hair loss on the muzzle can be from trauma or repeated digging/rubbing with his nose, ring worm (fungal) or demodex (non-contagious mite). If the area doesn't improve or it spreads then I would have your Vet check him out. If he is rubbing his nose to bury things then prevent him from doing so. I wouldn't recommend putting anything topical on the nose because he will likely just lick it off. I hope this helps and please repost with clarification if needed.

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Am is very cute! It's hard to say 100% from the pictures. The 2 possibilities are viral Papilloma, which is contagious and likes to be on the face but more so the mouth. Dogs get it from playing with other dogs at the park or from Doggie Daycare. Papillomas are white to grey and look warty. They tend to resolve with time. The other possibility is a benign histiocytoma. They are growths that appear on young dogs that spontaneously go away with in a few months. They tend to be pink and hairless, like a button. I hope this helps! This presentation could be due to a trauma or localized spot of skin infection (likely to be caused by bacteria). A check up, appropriate disinfection and possibly antibiotics (oral, topical or in a shampoo formulation) are needed to solve the problem. Disinfection may be started at home with very diluted hibiscrub or betadine or salted water baths. Buster collar may be useful as well to avoid any scratching. It would be easier for us give you advice if you could post some photos. I would not say this is "normal". Some rule-outs would be: 1. vitaligo 2. lupus (DLE) 3. Mucocutaneous pyoderma (MCP) 4. Pemphigus foliaceus (PF) 5. Cutaneous reactive histiocytosis (CRH) 6. Uveodermatologic syndrome 7. neoplasia As you can see the list of differentials is very long (and that is not all of them) so I suggest you get your dog to your vet for an exam so you can discuss steps for testing. Hello there and thank you for your post! It looks like a raised skin mass. Many of these are benign cysts or glandular tumors but to be on the safe side I would have your vet take a look at this. We can do a simple test on something like this by sticking a small needle into the mass and look at the contents under the microscope. I hope this helps guide you in the right direction.
