My dog has a strange mark after being alone. Did he injure himself?

This sore could just be from an injury. I would gently clean it with warm water and antiseptic soap. To keep him from scratching at it, you can put an Ecollar on him. You can get one at a pet store or make one at home. Keep the wound clean and dry, and monitor it for signs of infection. If you see redness, swelling, warmth to the touch, or pus, then it is infected and he will need to see the vet for antibiotics to treat it. I'd also have him seen by a vet if the sore doesn't appear to be healing over the next week. I will put a link below on how to make an Ecollar at home. Hello. Did the sitter ever notice the dog scratching? This could be an actual injury, or he could have scratched a wound because of an allergic reaction to something in the house, or possibly even from stress. This looks significant enough that I would recommend an evaluation by your veterinarian in case additional treatment or antibiotics are needed. Weird! This looks like a small puncture wound from playing outside or with another animal or could be from where a tick was previously located or a minor spider or bug bite. Without seeing it in person, it is difficult to say for sure. First, I would make sure he is unable to lick it. If he can, I would put a cone collar on him to prevent this or it will never heal. You can also put a little Neosporin on it twice a day to help it heal. If it has any pus coming from it or it isn't healing, I would have your vet take a look to ensure he doesn't need any oral antibiotics or other treatment. I hope this helps!

Poor Kyro! From the pictures, the area still looks a little swollen and you need to keep him from licking it. That will make it worse. Put an Ecollar on him to keep him from licking it. You can make one at home (I will put a link below on how to do this), or you can buy one at a pet store. Otherwise, it doesn't look red so I would not clean it unless the vet instructed you to clean it daily. This presentation could be due to a trauma or localized spot of skin infection (likely to be caused by bacteria). A check up, appropriate disinfection and possibly antibiotics (oral, topical or in a shampoo formulation) are needed to solve the problem. Disinfection may be started at home with very diluted hibiscrub or betadine or salted water baths. Buster collar may be useful as well to avoid any licking(if any).
