My beagle takes Onsior for arthritis. Will stopping it cause pain?

Yes, I think Honey would benefit from some extra pain relief. I would speak to her vet about having a prescription for another pain reliever for her, such as an opioid which can be used safely in combination with NDSAIDs (Onsior is an NDSAID).

Carprofen is an nonsteroidal antiinflammatory medication (NSAID) like aspirin or ibuprofen for humans. It's used daily for arthritis or other chronic pain, and short term for more acute/temporary pain. The half life is the amount of time it takes for half of the drug to leave the body (via the liver, kidneys/bladder, or gut). Carprofen can occasionally have side effects on the liver, so if he's going to be on it long term, it's usually recommended to check liver values after 2 weeks. That said, liver issues are rare. Intestinal upset (vomiting/diarrhea) are also possible side effects and if he had any of that you'd want to stop and figure out a different appropriate medication with his vet. With just 6 days of medication, no additional testing will be done. You can (and should, if that is how it was prescribed) give carporfen daily. Appropriate supplements could include fish oils and glucosamine and others, depending on what exactly is going on. I'd recommend asking about supplements for long term when you go for your recheck visit

Even half a dose of Loxiom can have detrimental effect on kidneys if used chronically. So, the answer is absolutely yes, Brino should be weaned off Loxiom and paracetamol or other pain killers (tramadol, gabapentin, amantadine etc) should be used instead.

Clopidogrel and Onsior are safe to give at the same time, as long as they are medications that are both prescribed by your veterinarian to be used by Jack. Onsior is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medication that should not be used if cats have underlying liver or kidney disease, as Onsior can make these diseases worse. If the Onsior has been prescribed by your veterinarian for Jack (and not a different cat in the house) it is OK to give him this along with the Clopidogrel he usually receives. If the Onsior has been prescribed for a different cat in the household, I would not give this to Jack without Jack first being evaluated by your veterinarian. I hope this is helpful!

Yes, this can be due to this medication. This medication can rarely cause damage to the lining of the stomach and intestines, which can cause a lack of appetite, vomiting and/or diarrhea. We normally advise clients to give this drug with food and to stop the medication if vomiting, diarrhea or a lack of appetite occurs. Considering this, I recommend discontinuing the medication until you are able to have Fifi evaluated by your vet. For now, it's OK to give Fifi's stomach a rest. You can offer a bland food (boneless chicken and rice is good) and see if she will eat that. Feed small portions (1/2 cup or less) three times a day. Ensure fresh, clean water is always available. The first thing I would do is ask myself if the Galliprant has helped at all with the pain and lameness associated with the leg. The next thing I would ask myself if whether or not any of these other problems existed prior to your original vet visit, or if they occurred immediately after the Galliprant was administered. In general, Galliprant is an extremely safe medication that has almost no known side effects, EXCEPT for vomiting. Panting and trembling could be caused by the general discomfort from the vomiting episodes, or it can be a result of the pain she's experiencing. Ultimately, if the Galliprant is the cause of the vomiting, obviously discontinuing this medication may be in her best interest even if it is helping with the pain. Other medicatiosn are available to addres pain and inflammation that may result in few side effects. You will need to speak with your primary vet about these findings and possibly schedule another visit if need be. Hope this helps.

Fortunately Onsior is one of the safest pain killers on the market and a one time double dosage is not likely to affect him. i would still monitor him for vomiting, lack of appetite and bloody stools, i would also recommend skipping the next dose.
