My dog has soft/hard bump on stomach after surgery. Is it serious?

It's a little difficult to tell in your picture - it doesn't appear to be raised. If it is a flat area of redness and hair loss it could be a hot spot or superficial bacterial infection. If it is raised it could be a skin growth like a histiocytoma. I would recommend having your vet examine this lesion to determine for certain what it is.

This lump/growth should be ideally examined by your veterinarian to have a definitive diagnosis. Your vet will examine it and possibly perform with an FNA (fine needle aspiration) or a biopsy. Differentials would include skin cyst, infections or benign or malignant type of tumors. Larger dogs or dogs that are playful after a procedure can develop a seroma at the incision site. These firm bumps under the skin at the incision and are not painful. Sometimes they can drain and be fluid-filled. They will go away completely as healing takes place, but it may take a little longer than the normal 10 days for healing. It is still there after 2 weeks, begins to ooze any fluid, or gets noticeably larger, then I would have it rechecked. It's unlikely to be a hernia, particularly if it resolves on it's own. For some dogs, warm (not hot) compresses applied a few times per day can be helpful.

Thank you for providing a picture of Mabel's incision! This small lump could be a local tissue reaction from an internal suture, scar tissue, a seroma (fluid in the dead space from a surgery), or a cyst. I'm not sure if the lump is hard or soft. The incision itself looks like it healed beautifully, but i would have this lump checked out by the vet to be safe. The vet can diagnose what is causing it and if it needs any treatment. Hi, with a hernia your vet would be able to feel discontinuation of the muscles. It would feel soft and you would be able to push it in. It might just be an inflammation to the inner sutures that has become harder with time. If Chutki seems well in herself, I would not worry about it. Hope she continues to do well!

Luma could have an umbilical hernia. This is an opening in muscles wall located where the umbilical cord was previously attached. Typically these need to be corrected surgically and it can be done at the same time as when you get him neutered. It's never recommended to breed a dog who has had an umbilical hernia because there they are inherited. I would have Luma seen by a vet either tomorrow given this bump is large. The vet can diagnose if it is an umbilical hernia and can discuss when surgery should be done to fix it. I hope this helps!

That area could be a ruptured abscess, a ruptured cyst or the previous home of a worm larvae. You can continue treating it like you are. Make sure Eleven wears and elizabethan collar at all times to prevent any licking which could make it worse.
