Did my dog's steroid shot cause pancreatitis or death?

I am sorry to hear of your loss of Tilly. I'm sure this has been hard on you. In my opinion, it sounds as though there was some systemic disease process going on that lead to her untimely passing. I do not think the steroids had anything to do with this. It is possible she had a viral infection as well or something she ate that lead to her passing. You could always request to have an autopsy performed on her to help determine what the cause could have been. Again, I am sorry to hear that Tilly is no longer with you. You need to go to the out of hours urgently with her. i have to admit i do not understand the cortisone shot whatsoever, this is contraindicated in dogs with diabetes. it can be used sometimes with severe pancreatitis though. she will need several medication by injection, she must be taken to the vet.

Poor Monte. It is possible that the tumor could have caused the pancreatitis but not always. With all of his problems, I honestly don't believe you could have prevented his death even if you had taken him into your vet in the very beginning. All of his conditions were very serious and most incurable even with early treatment. I am so sorry for your loss of this sweet family member. First, I am so sorry for your loss of Poppy. Pancreatitis can be a very painful and often devastating disease within aggressive and immediate treatment. Unfortunately the loss of fluids from vomiting and diarrhea can result in shock. I am hopeful that the anti spasm medication the vet gave would have provided her some pain relief before she passed. With pancreatitis, it is typically caused by them eating something that they were not supposed too. Usually from human food. I agree that changing Shadow's diet to a bland diet and keeping him on antibiotics (not long term) will be beneficial for him. Pancreatitis can be serious and is usually painful. Pancreatitis is typically caused by the ingestion of fatty foods such as bacon, pepperoni, greasy or buttery foods, or something rotten that they found outside or in the garbage, etc. I have never seen or heard of a case of pancreatitis being caused by any vaccinations, including Rabies. Labs and lab mixes are notorious for eating things that they shouldn't. Is there any possiblitiy that she may have gotten ahold of something that she shouldn't have either in the house or outside? Many "people foods" can cause pancreatitis in dogs. I hope she is on the road to recovery.

Although to give you a specific answer I would need more informations (like concentration in the tablet, weight of your dog and exact name of the tablet - I guess it is named macrolone?- ), generally speaking it is unlikely to give any severe side effects that would require an immediate check up, a part from gastrointestinal ones like diarrhoea and vomiting.
