Can I give my dog organic Spirulina with lymphoma and chemotherapy?

For this reason, I do not recommend using this as we do not know if it could interact negatively with the chemotherapy. It would be safer to get her through the chemotherapy protocol and perhaps consider holistic supplements after. Good luck and have a good day!

Other than the prednisone there is nothing in all the other supplements that you are giving that could harm him, even when given all together at the same time. the are these helping his condition? that is another question which i am afraid i cannot give you an answer to.

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! As a veterinary oncology veterinarian I can tell you that there is no proven diet for cancer patients. The only supplement that you could potentially add that could have anti-cancer activity but most importantly helps with the skin and joints is fish oil. I would recommend you get the commercial kind online or at your local pet store. Other than that, the best cancer diet is the diet that Jake loves as again there is no diet that has been proven to help with cancer. This is the time to make him happy so I would focus on a diet that he likes regardless of protein, fat or carbohydrate contents. Just make sure it is not too rich as it can upset his belly. I am so sorry to hear of Brooke’s diagnosis. Other than some good old TLC (tender loving care), I would hold off on giving any medications until you are told to do so by the oncologist, because a lot of medications may interfere with your treatment options moving forward. 20 days is an awfully long time to wait; you may want to call and ask if you can be on a list to call if they have a cancellation, or call around and see if you can get in somewhere else sooner. You can also ask your family veterinarian if they have an oncologist they can call to try to help you expedite the process. Again I’m so sorry to hear of Brooke’s diagnosis, but lymphoma does tend to respond quite well to chemotherapy, and usually the treatment is well tolerated. I wish you and Brooke the best of luck. I typically recommend using the prescription diet Hills and feeding N/D (neoplasia diet) with any diagnosed cancers. This diet is a proprietary blend of antioxidants and nutritional ingredients to help dogs with cancer especially going through chemotherapy. Your vet will need to prescribe this food as it is a prescription diet. I hope this helps! I'm so sorry that Lucky is ill. I can tell you are trying to do everything in your power to help her feel well for as long as possible. BalenceIT is my usual go to for supplementing home cooked diets. However, it is usually most appropriate for young-mostly healthy dogs. Dogs such as Lucky need more assistance. I would strongly recommend talking to a veterinary behavior specialist. I know Ohio State University Veterinary School was doing over-the-phone consultations with their nutrition specialist, Dr. Parker, at one point so I would recommend starting there. To the best of my knowledge, no studies have been done focusing on spirulina. Supplements and what not are no well regulated or even tested to see if they do what the manufacturer claims the do. Spirulina can contain toxins and pollution if not grown carefully under the right conditions. I recommend to stick with established pet food companies who have a proven track record of making quality food in a safe fashion.
