My dog's hock wound is sore, raw, and yellowish. What should I do?

Poor Panda! Unfortunately the safest and most effective thing in this case is going to be the E-collar. Ask your vet for tips on sizing and securing it to Panda. In some cases, a little anti-anxiety medication or sedation for a day or two can really help him keep that cone on. If it is truly a small graze, it is likely to heal in the next couple days as long as he keeps away from it. I also recommend keeping him inside if at all possible for the next couple days.

Hello, sorry to hear about Panda. An injury such as a sprain may simply require some rest and ice. If he has a cut then cleaning with soap and water will work. And finally, placing an e-collar on him so that he does not lick at his toes would be best case scenario as this is likely the source of infection. If he is licking at the area, he should wear a cone for approximately 3-5 days. No running, jumping, or rough housing should be allowed during his rest period of 10 days. Once he has recovered, then he may resume his normal activity. If his toe continues to be red, then you he should be seen by a veterinarian. If Panda develops any limping, then he should also be seen by his veterinarian then. Hope this helps and best of luck.

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Panda! This is a tough situation! With out seeing the extend of the neck wound it is hard to give advice. I would go the pet store and find the bitter apple spray or lick guard and apply in on the skin (not the stitches) near the testicle area to discourage licking. Then I would consider a donut or softer E-collar to prevent rubbing and licking that hopefully won't continue to irritate the neck. But since the throat wound hasn't improved in 4 days you should have Panda rechecked sooner than Thursday. Maybe if it has been 10 days since the surgeries the stitches can be removed then. The most you can do at home is to place an e-collar (cone) on Gracy Kay to prevent further licking and to limit her activity to leash walks for elimination. We would not (and legally cannot) recommend any medications in the absence of a physical exam. She needs to be seen by a veterinarian for a definitive diagnosis and treatment. X-rays may be indicated to rule out fractures, tumors or foreign bodies. Any treatment will depend on the diagnosis.

I'm sorry this happened but you must understand this is a very serious wound and should be treated by your local veterinarian. She should be on oral antibiotics. No matter is what is applied to this topically, it will not heal if she continues to chew at it. You will need to either keep it bandaged (provided she does not chew the bandage off) or get her a cone collar like this one until it is healed. Be sure to get the appropriate size. Hi there. Poor Sadie! It sounds as if you have been diligent with her care-I would discourage more use of the hydrogen peroxide and continue with the salt soaks and neosporin (making sure she doesn't lick or eat any of it). You are doing everything you can at home-she may require antibiotics from your veterinarian and it's worth trying an allergy medication if these happen frequently. Hope this helps!

I highly recommend that you have your veterinarian take a look at the wound to see if it requires further local therapy with debridement and cleaning. Also, they would be able to check if antibiotics should be used which is likely.
