My dog has a snout lump after crating. Is it a crate injury?

It is hard to tell from the photo the characteristics of this bump. I would say it is possible it is related to trauma and I would monitor for now but it could also be a tumor (either benign or malignant). My recommendation would be to monitor it for the next 24 to 48 hours, and if it is still there in the same size or it is bigger I would have a veterinarian examin the area. Further testing might need to be considered such as taking a sample of the mass and sending it out for interpretation at the laboratory. I hope this helps guide you in the right direction. It looks like this lump could simply be a benign tumor, but that's impossible to say without seeing the dog in person. Any suspicious lumps should be examined by the vet. The vet can perform a test called a fine needle aspirate on it. To do this, the vet sticks a small needle into the lump to get a sample of its cells, and examines the cells on a slide under a microscope. It's usually painless to the animal, and relatively quick to perform. Once the cause of the lump is diagnosed, the vet can discuss treatment options if needed. I'd give your dog's vet a call to set up an appointment for sometime this week. I hope this helps!

I am sorry to hear about your concern for Cricket! If the swelling is still present next week, or if the area becomes more swollen or painful before then I would bring her in for an exam. We do worry about tumors (many are benign and do not spread/cause issues) as well as things like cysts, abscesses, foreign bodies like splinters causing granulomas, and more. Until then I would just observe the area as topical medications are not likely to make a difference.

Kaiser likely has bruising in the soft raised ridged spot. It looks like he abraded the skin from his muzzle as well and some damaged skin appears to be peeling. Especially if he is not acting ike it hurts, I recommend just waiting for the skin and bruising to heal within a week or two. It does not look like his skin is infected, however if the area becomes more swollen over the next few days/appears oozy, I recommend bringing him to your veterinarian for antibiotics and non-steroidal anti- inflammatory pain medication +/- a topical steroid/antibiotic ointment for a potential abscess. Currently it looks like just bruised/abraded skin that will heal on its own with time. Good luck!

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! A lot of skin bumps and lumps can look the same. She could have hit her nose on something and the bump is related to trauma and will go away, it could be a benign growth (like a histiocytoma), it could be part of a skin infection or immune reaction, hives or a cancerous growth. If the bump doesn't resolve in a few days I recommend having your Vet look at it. The sores around her mouth can also be due to infection or an immune condition and may or may not be related to the new bump on her nose. I hope this helps and I wish Luna a speedy recovery!

Bumps like this are usually a hypersensitivity response to an allergen. Also it could be bug bites that are having a localized reaction. I would recommend monitoring these areas to see if they continue to grow in size or cause pain/irritation. If they do start causing irritation for Snow, then you can place a cold compress on the area for 5 mins tonight and then get Snow seen by your vet tomorrow for further care, if it is still bothersome for Snow.
