My Shih Tzu is sneezing a lot. Can dogs catch colds from humans?

In Shih Tzus, their breathing is noisy to begin with so sometimes it can be difficult to know if it is a normal sound or abnormal. If there is nasal discharge and eye discharge, it is likely an upper respiratory infection. If the sound is new but there is no nasal discharge or eye discharge, it may be allergies or may be something else. If this is a new sound then I would recommend having a veterinarian take a look at Chania so that the most appropriate diagnostic and treatment recommendations can be made. I hope this helps!

Bentley is very cute! I would recommend taking him to a veterinarian for a good physical exam. I would be concerned with an older patient that maybe his teeth are causing inflammation in the nasal passage or even an upper respiratory infection. In older pets a vet visit is always best. While she could be experiencing allergies as they are common this time of year, a respiratory tract infection is also possible. Given how frequently her symptoms are occurring, I worry that she does have an infection. If so, she may need an antibiotic. In the meantime, you can place her the bathroom while you shower. I recommend that she sees a veterinarian if the sneezing continues, she develops a cough or she starts acting ill. In the meantime, keep her home and away from other dogs in case she is contagious. It’s definitely possible that the dogs are passing along a virus or bacteria. It’s also possible that the air quality inside the house is dry and circulating a lot of dust particles which can cause irritation to the lining of the nose. Monitor both dogs for progression of respiratory signs, decreased energy levels or not eating well. You can also use a humidifier and an air filter in the areas where they hang out most to improve air quality. Adding omega 3 fatty acids for dogs can also help. There is a possibility that your dog picked up some kennel cough even though he was vaccinated 5 days ago. The body has not had time enough to make antibodies. However, the sneezing could also be from dry air, dust in the air or a general upper respiratory condition. I would take Oreo's temperature and if it is more than 102.5F I would take him to a vet for an exam. If there is no fever, monitor for lethargy, not eating, not drinking, possibly a cough and, again, if these occur, see the vet. Otherwise, Oreo should be fine,

Yes, dogs can get respiratory infections. I think it would be a good idea to take her into the vet for an exam if her symptoms continue over the next 48 hours. She may benefit from some antibiotics to help with the infection.
