My dog is sneezing with a raw, bleeding nose/mouth. What should I do?

Ouch, poor Ruger! Bite wounds can be tricky because oftentimes we only see the tip of the iceberg with the external injuries. The damage to the tissues under the surface of the skin is often much more extensive than the small puncture seen on the skin. It's possible that this bite wound caused damage to his nasal passages, or even just enough soft tissue swelling and inflammation around his nasal passages to cause him to sneeze. Bite wounds also introduce a lot of bacteria and can become infected quickly. You should take Ruger to the vet now for evaluation. Your vet will want to do a full physical exam and may recommend sedating him to more extensively evaluate this puncture wound. Based on their exam findings, they will likely prescribe antibiotics and anti-inflammatory pain medications to help Ruger recover. I hope that he feels better soon!

I would definitely be concerned about the bloody nose. Since he does frequent the dog park, infections such as bordetella, influenza, or even contagious nasal mites are possible. A nasal foreign body is also possible. I would highly encourage you to have him evaluated by your veterinarian soon. Antibiotics may be recommended. Best of luck and I hope he improves soon. With a dog as young as he, my first guess would be a seed or bit of grass that he has sneezed into his nasal passage. Since he seems to be feeling okay otherwise I don't think he needs anything special done before he gets in to see the vet. If they don't find something else causing his sneezing, they may need to sedate him in order to explore his nasal passages for any sign of a foreign body.

It is possible that the bite wound may be deeper than it appears, it may need stitches, or it may need antibiotics to prevent it from becoming infected. Poor Daisy! She is an older girl, and unfortunately this sneezing with blood in her snot could be due to a malignant growth (cancer) in her nasal cavity. It could also be due to a foreign body, fungal infection, or respiratory infection. Because this has been ongoing for a while, it's best that Daisy is seen by a vet either today or tomorrow. The vet can do a physical exam, blood tests, urinalysis, x-rays, and may look up her nasal cavity with an endoscope to diagnose what is causing her symptoms. Once a cause is found, the vet can discuss treatment options with you.

Yeti may have a nasal parasite (Oestrus ovis L.), or fungal infection in his upper airways. There are also other diseases that can cause bleeding from the nose, heat stroke, mechanical trauma (sand irritation), injury, ulcers, bacterial and viral infections. Your daughter's veterinarian will be very familiar with the type of problem in his area.

Lexus really needs to go see a vet as soon as possible. A long term nose bleed is a medical emergency. My main concerns would be exposure to toxin that might affect his ability to clot his blood. This could be rat poison or another toxin. However a foreign object up his nose, trauma and infection can cause bleeding too. He needs to have blood work to detect if he is clotting his blood and make sure his platelet number is normal. If he will let you apply pressure to his nose and maybe even ice to the bride of the nose to slow the bleeding until you get him into a vet.
