My dog has a bite wound. Could it be a snake bite? What to do?

He probably got bitten by either a snake or an insect, the swelling is very severe you need to try and find a vet clinic that provide out of hours service today as he might not survive, especially if it is a snake bite.

I am sorry to hear about Shelby. It is difficult from the photo to tell what we are looking at but it appears to be her hind leg? She most definitely needs to get to the vet right away- to the emergency vet if your vet is not open. This is a severe wound that has retracted and exposed the muscle beneath the skin. When a dog gets bitten by a snake, the area where it was bitten will quickly swell and you can find 2 puncture wounds near each other. if you find those on Milly you will need to take her to the vet urgently for treatment.

I don't know what type of research you did but i would not be able to tell by the bite if it is a venomous snake or not, i strongly recommend taking him to the emergency right away as a snake bite can easily be deadly within a few hours.

Hello, The two puncture wounds do appear that they could be from a bite wound. A small dog, cat, or snake is possible. I only see one picture, but since she is still alive a day after the bite, it is not likely to be from a venomous snake.
