It could be a cyst, papilloma, histiocytoma, or a pustule. You could have her examined by a vet to determine the exact cause. Your vet can do a needle aspirate to diagnose and then determine if treatment is needed Papillomas and histiocytomas are common in young dogs and usually resolve with no treatment.

Hello, my name is Dr. Shines and I am happy to help. From the photo, it's difficult to see the area of concern. I think what I'm looking at is a mass under the skin correct? The most common type of mass under the skin is a lipoma: https://www.petcoach.co/article/lipomas-in-dogs-benign-fatty-growths/ These benign growths don't usually cause any problems unless they grow too large (they can get the size of a volleyball or even bigger) or if they are located around a joint and interfere with movement. If this mass feels firm, grows/shrinks, feels like air under the skin (crepitus) or starts growing quickly, I recommend to have it examined to make sure it's not something cancerous. Liposarcomas, Mast Cell Tumors and Soft Tissue Sarcomas are all cancerous growths that also grow under the skin and can look exactly like a lipoma. I would also make sure to point this out to your veterinarian during the next exam, even if the mass never changes. I hope this helps and please feel free to reach out with any additional questions.

This can be a viral wart or another tumor type like a mast cell tumor, histiocytoma, among many others. This is often differentiated by a test called a fine needle aspirate (FNA) which is a pain free, inexpensive and easy procedure which in most cases will help reach a diagnosis. Sometimes a biopsy is needed for a definitive diagnosis. I recommend that you have her evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. I am really hoping for something benign. Hello. For the most part, benign lumps & nodules are very common in animals, even very young ones. If it remains fairly stable, & does not appear to be growing or causing Brie any discomfort, just have your vet take a look at it at your next wellness visit. If it begins to enlarge, become irritated or starts bleeding, please have it evaluated as soon as possible. Some benign tumors, like histiocytomas, will actually regress on their own over time. Hi and thanks for your post on Pet Coach! It is hard to say what the bumps are exactly without examine Bear first, but I can offer some insights. Sometimes young dogs can get wart like growth on their face including head and muzzle that are caused by the canine papilloma virus. These typically do not need any medication or surgical removal and will resolve on their own over time. It is a common occurrence in younger dogs. These will spontaneously resolve if that is what these bumps are. I would have a veterinarian examine Bear just to be sure. Best wishes to you!

They do not appear to be bleeding or have any discharge or inflammation, so I can guess that they are not bothering Spider. It is hard to get a good idea of their size from the pictures, but they do not appear very large. You have several options in this case - you can either continue to monitor the lumps for any change in size or development of discharge/redness (having them evaluated by a veterinarian if any of those signs occur) or you can have him seen by a veterinarian as soon as possible. Having him evaluated shortly will allow Spider to have a better prognosis if the lumps are masses, as they can be removed and sent of to a laboratory for a definitive diagnosis and treatment options.

Ajayi's lump looks a bit irregular and to the naked eye looks most like a papilloma, which is a benign wart-like mass. Papillomas are not terribly common in young dogs, but not all dogs read textbooks in what they "should" do! Other possible causes include an irritated insect bite or sting, some healing granulomatous tissue from rough play with one of his housemates, or other benign or malignant masses. Since Ajayi isn't bothered by this lesion, I think it's perfectly reasonable to monitor it at home for changes for now. If it grows or becomes irritated at any point, or is still present in a few weeks, then you should take Ajayi to his vet for further evaluation. Your vet would likely need to perform a fine needle aspirate to draw out some of the cells for microscopic evaluation. I hope that everything goes well!
