My dog has small white leg bumps. What are they? Should I worry?

I'm glad to hear that by and large Roxy isn't bothered by this bump. It's possible that this bump could be due to a benign mass (histiocytomas are fairly common in young dogs), a malignant mass (although this would be far less likely given Roxy's young age), an abscess, granuloma, or other infectious issue. Regardless, it would be best to take Roxy to her vet for an exam to have this lesion checked out. Your vet will likely recommend some diagnostic testing to help determine the cause of this lesion. Most likely, they'll recommend a fine needle aspirate, which uses a needle to draw out a few cells for microscopic evaluation. Based on those findings, they'll be able to determine the best course of action, whether that may be surgical removal, medications, or just monitoring it for changes. This bump on Aspen's leg could be a cyst, a lipoma, a benign tumor, or a malignant tumor. Any suspicious bumps should be examined by the vet. The vet can perform a test called a fine needle aspirate on it. To do this, the vet sticks a small needle into the bump to get a sample of it's cells, and examines the cells on a slide under a microscope. It's usually painless to the animal, and relatively quick to perform. I would take Aspen into the vet tomorrow to have the bump examined and diagnosed so it can be treated.

A white bump on the skin can be a variety of things, including a cyst, blocked skin pore, wart, or another underlying issue. The bump on his stomach I can't distinguish in the picture. I do, however, recommend all abnormal growths be evaluated by a veterinarian to determine if they are benign (non-cancerous) or not. Typically a needle sample can determine this, and if any further treatment may be needed. Good luck!

This could be an mildly infected gland, a cyst or even a benign skin tumor like an adenoma. You could monitor it for any change in size, color, or any discharge or pain. If it has any of those changes Rose needs to get checked out by her veterinarian. I would not apply any ointment to it at this time.

I'm glad to hear that this lesion isn't bothering Benji! It's certainly possible that this lesion is a benign papilloma-like lesion, but it could also be another benign or malignant type of mass. The only way to know for sure is to perform a biopsy of the lesion for pathologist evaluation, or at the very least, your vet could draw a few cells out with a needle for microscopic evaluation (fine needle aspiration). The tricky part with lumps and bumps on legs is that they're more difficult to remove if they grow because there is less extra skin that can be used to close surgically. For this reason in particular, I recommend taking Benji to your vet sooner rather than later to have this lesion examined in person. Even though he isn't bothered by the lesion when you touch it, I do recommend putting an e-collar (cone) on him until his appointment because the lesion looks a bit red and weepy. This can occur if he's been licking at it, even if you haven't seen him do so. I hope that he's on the mend soon!

This is often differentiated by a test called a fine needle aspirate (FNA) which is a pain free, inexpensive and easy procedure which in most cases will help reach a diagnosis. Sometimes a biopsy is needed for a definitive diagnosis. I recommend that you have him evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. I am really hoping for something benign. Hi and thank you for reaching out about Roxy. The pictures you have provided for Roxy appear to be benign "skin tags" ("skin warts"). They do not cause Roxy any pain and generally are not a problem for dogs. The treatments you have asked about/mentioned will not remove them. Her fur coat looks very healthy and these skin tags generally do not cause any problems. If you would like them removed it must be safely done with a very small surgical removal performed by her veterinarian. Otherwise, we usually have you continue to monitor them at home unless they start to bother Roxy.
