My Jack Russell has a small red lump on his head. What could it be?

It's difficult to know for certain without being able to feel in person, but this could be a tooth root abscess (even though she is still eating), or it could be some kind of tumor or growth. There are also lymph nodes in this area and it is possible that this is an enlarged lymph node. I would definitely recommend seeing your veterinarian so they can determine what this might be.

This lump needs to be checked and analysed as there are many conditions and types of tumors that could look like that. take Jsune to the vet, they will perform a fine needle aspiration on the growth and send it to the lab for analysis. when the result comes, the vet will advise what needs to be done according to the diagnosis.

Due to the fact that it has ulcerated, I would highly consider having it surgically removed entirely and then sent off for analysis so that we can determine what kind of mass it is, cancerous or non-cancerous. That looks more like a tumor or severely infected wound. I recommend to have Zola examined by the veterinarian. She also needs to wear an elizabethan collar at all times to prevent licking. I hope this helps and please feel free to post any additional questions.

The treatment would depend on the type of tumor and if the diagnosis has been established appropriately. If not, this kind of lump/growth needs to be ideally assessed by your veterinarian to have a definitive and specific answer. Usually there are two ways your vet can do that a part from examining it directly during physical examination. A biopsy can be taken under local or general anesthetic, otherwise a smaller sample through a fine needle can be aspirated (this technique is called FNA= fine needle aspiration). Differentials include skin cysts, infections, benign or more sinister type of tumors. Swelling under the skin in dogs can be due to a variety of reasons, including soft tissue injury, a growth, or a cyst or abscess, among others. This cannot be completely assessed just by looking at pictures and usually requires sampling such as fine needle aspiration to determine its origin.
