My dog's poop is very small. Should I be worried about its size?

Hi there and thank you for using Pet Coach! As long as Tiger is eating, drinking and not having diarrhea, this should not be a major concern. It may reflect the amount of fiber in the diet though. I would consider adding canned pumpkin to the diet (1tbsp with each meal) and see if this bulks the stool up. I hope this helps! Your dog may have diarrhea or constipation issues. You can try a high fiber diet like Hills I/d for a few days and see if this clears up the issues, or add canned pumpkin to her food. If this doesn't seem to solve the issue, she needs to see a vet for fecal tests to see what's going on. She may need to be dewormed or to be on probiotics or antibiotics. Hope that helps!

Melatonin does have a tendency to slow down the GI tract a bit so the changes in the stool are most likely from the chews. Just keep an eye on it. Hope this helps. Best wishes.

Hello, & thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. This is a very good question! The easiest answer is no, Chloe will not have an increase in stool size with the wet food. The reason for this is the increased amount of water offsets the increased fiber content, which is also only really slightly higher in the wet vs. the dry food. The other part to this answer is that some fiber is digestable, so again will not add more bulk to the stool. So if Chloe prefers the wet over the dry, which is fine, her stools should not change much as all, as long as the overall total calorie counts remain the same.

Changing diets can certainly cause changes in stool appearance and size. The Royal Canin hypoallergenic diet is a higher quality diet than Kibbles and Bits, which typically results in less waste due to fewer filler ingredients. Higher quality diets often result in slightly smaller and less frequent stools. If Spock had an obstruction, I would expect profuse vomiting, anorexia and lethargy, so this sounds unlikely. As long as Spock is eating and active with no evidence of vomiting or diarrhea, it doesn't sound like there is cause for concern! :-)
