My dog's normal poop comes out in small pieces. Is this a concern?

His stool size should get back to normal soon. If you see your vet tomorrow, please make sure that he/she fully examines Romeo to ensure everything is OK.

I cannot imagine that a whole kibble went through her gastrointestinal tract without being digested. Please, keep an eye on her stools and if you see more of potentially undigested food, Chloe may need a blood test to check her pancreas function.

If you would like to increase the size of the stool, I would add fiber to the diet or feed a high fiber dog food. This should help bulk up the stool. I hope this helps! When dogs are frequently straining to poop, this can indicate irritation within the large bowel of the intestines - this is called tenesmus (or straining). Diarrhea may be coming, so be on the lookout! If signs persist more than 12-24 hours, you may want to consider a veterinary exam. I hope this helps, good luck!

Melatonin does have a tendency to slow down the GI tract a bit so the changes in the stool are most likely from the chews. Just keep an eye on it. Hope this helps. Best wishes.

I would continue to monitor Luna's stools for any changes. If you see a pattern that is abnormal (red blood, dark black stool can be a sign of bleeding high in the intestinal tract, gelatinous stools mean the colon may be inflammed or whipworms are present, very light color stools, very loose stools, very dry stools) then you should contact your veterinarian and discuss what is going on. I would make sure though that his water intake is appropriate as dry feces can sometimes be a sign of decreased water intake. Good luck and have a great day!
