Why does my dog smack her lips when resting? Is it a concern?

Java’s lip smacking can be due to dry mouth, hair in the mouth if he has long hair on the lips, nausea, or dental disease. Keep any long hair trimmed and keep his mouth clean from food particles. Check his lips for redness or scabbing. Monitor his eating habits and energy level for any signs of illness and ask his veterinarian if he has any signs of dental disease. Depending on when they occur in relation to her eating it may be related to her food or could be a sign of another condition. If she is otherwise acting normally I would recommend continuing to monitor her. Additionally you can try using Prilosec. Licking lips can be a sign of nausea in dogs, and that could be what's causing Fendi to do this behavior. Given that she is otherwise acting normal, I would monitor her for now. If she is still acting this way in the morning, or develops other symptoms such as vomiting and lethargy, I would have her seen by a vet.

That seems a fairly normal color although seems a bit concentrated. That behaviour could be due to nausea (usually is not related to tartar), but if she does it just few times a year there is nothing to be worried about. The tartar on the pics seems of mild quantity (good to be removed anyway but I would expect it not to cause any sign).

It' s best to have her checked over as soon as you vet it's open. It does not sound like anything too concerning, for sure she must have an upset stomach ( licking lips is normally a sign of nausea ). When it' s breakfast time try with a smaller portion of food and see if eating or at least interested and report to your vet.
