My dog feels hot with skin sores and bald spots. Can I wait for vet?

As long as she is eating, drinking and acting like herself, then it should be fine to wait until Thursday. Her veterinarian will thoroughly examine her and may recommend skin testing to determine the source of her lesions. A fungal culture is used to check for ringworm and skin scrapes tests for the presence of mites. Allergies are most common this time of year though. Sometimes bloodwork is necessary as well. Poor Shorty. You put a cold compress on his head to see if that helps with the fever. Take his temperature rectally. A dog's normal temperature is between 101-102.5F. If it's above 103F, take him into a vet immediately; otherwise, you can reevaluate in the morning and take him then.

Normal temperature in dogs can be up to 102.5 degrees so I don't think he has a fever, but the heavy panting and increase in water intake can indicate he is in pain or has an issue such as metabolic disease causing distress and symptoms. It would be best to bring him to your vet, especially if he also has sores or skin issues in addition to these symptoms. Your vet will likely want to do some tests such as bloodwork to help determine the cause of all his symptoms and get him on the right treatment plan.

A fever is possible. You can take a rectal temperature. He may a fever if it is over 102. If he has a fever, it should be checked out by a vet. There are no recommend at home treatments for fever in dogs that are safe. Do not attempt to cool him since you can easily make puppies hypothermic. Either way, I would recommend that he get checked out by a vet to see if there is a possible reaction to his current ringworm treatment.

Poor Volt! The red lesion in the picture could be a result of a skin infection from underlying allergies (to fleas, food or the environment), ringworm or mange. If Volt is highly uncomfortable from the skin lesions, this could cause him to breathe slightly faster, but as you mention, heat can do the same in some cases. If Volt seems to be having difficulty breathing, is taking more than 35-40 breaths per minute while resting (respiratory rate is often higher while active and excited), or is unable to rest, he will need an urgent vet visit today. Otherwise, you can try bathing him in a gentle oatmeal-based dog shampoo to try to ease any mild skin discomfort and take him to the vet tomorrow for evaluation.
