My dog has skin sores. Does he need antibiotics or a vet visit?

They look like they could be ringworm, which is a fungus that infects the skin and causes patchy round area of redness and hairloss. Often a topical antifungal shampoo or cream will help treat this, however in some cases oral antifungal medication may be needed. I recommend monitoring Rocco's response to the treatments that your veterinarian prescribed, and have him evaluated again if signs worsen or do not start to improve within a week! This is very concerning and appears to be a moist dermatitis, likely caused by a bacterial infection. Your dog needs to be seen by a veterinarian asap for an exam, clean up of the lesion which includes shaving the hair off all the way into healthy areas of the skin to see the extent, a possible skin swab and, depending on the diagnosis, prescription antibiotics in tablet or ointment form.

That heavy discharge generally indicates infection. Your pup will heal the fastest if he goes in to see his doctor. The doctor may give him a systemic antibiotic or may only give him topicals if the lesion is very small. Sometimes these pets can be itchy as well and will get medication for that too. You definitely want to make sure that he cannot itch or lick at that area as it will make it worse. The doctor will also shave the hair as it needs to be exposed to the air to dry up. The spot in the picture looks infected, it will need to be clipped and treated with antibiotics. he will also need to wear an e-collar in order to prevent him from licking the area and making it worse. i would recommend taking him to the vet in order to get it treated.

I cannot legally recommend any medications without seeing Otis in person. If he has pyoderma, you need to have him seen by a vet to get medication prescribed. I'd take him into a vet today. Best of luck.

It looks like there is an infection under the skin, it could be due to a bruise or some other type of injury. i would indeed recommend taking Oscar to the vet in order to get it treated, he will probably need a course of antibiotics.

It sounds like she might have a bacterial skin infection. You could bathe her with a medicated dog shampoo but she may need an oral antibiotic to treat. Have her examined by a vet to determine the exact cause and then your vet can prescribe medications to treat.
