My Chihuahua has skin bumps and is producing milk, not pregnant. Why?

If Maggie produces milk and her mammary glands are getting bigger she is either pregnant or has a false pregnancy. If her belly is big as well, then she is likely pregnant and will have her puppies soon. I suggest you take her to your vet for a pregnancy exam. If she has a falsse pregnancy your vet can stop that with a hormone injection.

Cosita could be experiencing a false pregnancy, which would cause her to produce milk and show symptoms of being pregnant without actually being pregnant. These symptoms will go away, as there is no treatment for a false pregnancy, but I would recommend having her spayed. That's the only way to keep her from having another false pregnancy, and it will keep her from developing a pyometra later on in life. A pyometra is a life threatening infection of the uterus that is fatal without treatment. It makes a dog extremely sick, and the recommended treatment is spaying. Spaying a dog with a pyometra can cost into the thousands, while simply spaying her now will only be hundreds. For these reasons, I would make an appointment with your vet to have her spayed. It is possible that Bella is heading into another heat. While dogs typically go into heat every six months, they can go into heat sooner, and it's a possibility if her last heat was a few months ago. She could also be experiencing a false pregnancy if there's no chance she would be pregnant. It's possible that she is going through a false pregnancy (pseudopregnancy) if you are sure that she didn't get bred by a male dog. Dogs often get mammary enlargement and will lactate when they are in a false pregnancy. Your veterinarian can gather a history and assess Princess. They may want to x-ray or ultrasound her to confirm that she is pregnant or not if she was out of your sight within the past 2 months or so. A false pregnancy usually resolves without treatment but it's also possible that she is developing some mild mastitis from the mammary enlargement. In your picture it does look like these lesions could be milia. Milia can occur more frequently with certain skin diseases or hormonal diseases like Cushing's, so if she has other skin problems I'd recommend seeing the vet. Otherwise I think it's probably okay to continue to monitor them: if they become red or if they 'pop' and there is discharge I'd make an appointment to have Baby examined.
