My dog has sudden skin bumps. What can I try at home for allergies?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Female | spayed | 43 lbs

My dog suddenly developed these weird bumps. They don’t seem to bother her, but they are noticeable. I don’t know if maybe it’s an allergy or what. She had been taking apoquel but after our recent moved she hasn’t been scratching like she had been. I know she will probably need to see a vet, I just relocated, didn’t have a job but I just got one. I won’t get paid for 2 weeks. Is there anything I can try at home that may help? Oh she’s 9 yo and a pit mix.

This looks like an allergic reaction. You can try some Benadryl (https://www.petcoach.co/canigive/dog/benadryl/). However, if this does not resolve the issue then , you will need to take Ellie to the vet as this could be a skin infection that needs a prescription medication.

Hi there and thank you for using PetCoach to address your concern. I would read the following article and if this does not help, I would recommend having Ashley examined by a veterinarian so that the most appropriate diagnostic and treatment recommendations can be made. Allergic reactions can progress and become fatal so if there is no improvement, I would strongly advise Ashley gets to a veterinarian right away. I hope this helps! Please let me know if you have any other questions or concerns and I would be more than happy to help you further.
