My dog is sick and howling after vet visit and antibiotic shot.

He could be painful from his previous injury, suffering pain from a new problem or even be suffering from a syndrome known as cognitive dysfunction. This is a senile disorder that affects older pets. Dogs can pant, pace, whine, have accidents in the house or seem lost (ie. getting stuck in corners). His veterinarian will be able to differentiate between these causes based on his exam findings. It isn't entirely uncommon for dogs to feel sore and puny after a round of vaccines - just like people can. They can cause soreness at the area of injection and mild general malaise, which would explain Snapple's unwillingness to move and whimpering when you try to touch her. This will probably abate over the next day, but if you notice any other symptoms such as swelling, difficulty breathing, vomiting, or diarrhea, please call your vet as these may indicate a more serious reaction. This is very unlikely as most severe vaccine reactions occur within an hour of the shots, but it is always better to be safe than sorry. If she's still acting puny tomorrow, feel free to call your vet and let them know. They may be able to recommend or prescribe an anti-inflammatory/pain reliever that will make her feel much better. Hello! It sounds as if his antibiotic course may not have been long enough, but it is a little hard to know for sure, as I'm not sure what he was being treated for. It sounds like he might have had a fever. Possibly he had kennel cough, in which case, antibiotics often need to be for up to 10 days. Would you be able to take him back in to see his vet, to be checked over, and possibly to be re-started on his antibiotics? Some blood work might be helpful, too! He might need specific treatment for his eyes as well. He is adorable, and I really hope he feels better soon!

Your Dog needs to be seen again by your veterinarian and more investigations are required to understand what is going on. The signs you are describing are compatible with an respiratory tract infection. Chest radiographs and antibiotics are required as soon as possible. Hello and thank you for your post! Speaking from personal experience, this used to happen to my dog as well. I would give him his capsule and sometimes it would get stuck under his lip and it would partially dissolve releasing the powder in his mouth. He would shake his head and foam at the mouth because of how bitter the powder was. He never got sick because of this and the powder generally will not cause any irritation it is just very bitter and distasteful. I would think that the antibiotic itself would be causing him to feel sick if he managed to swallow some of the antibiotic on an empty stomach. It is also possible that it has nothing to do with the medication that was administered and is completely something else that has led to him feeling sick. Since you have an appointment with your veterinarian, I would wait and see what the physical examination shows and possibly have Joel's blood tested. I hope this helps! Very rarely have I seen a dog get sick from the intranasal bordetella vaccine. If he is vomiting and/or having diarrhea then it is likely the simplecef that is causing this. I would make sure he is eating a full meal before giving him the antibiotics. If he is still sick or having other symptoms, I would contact you vet to ensure the antibiotics or ear drops wouldn't cause those symptoms. He may just need a different antibiotics that he can better tolerate. I hope this helps.
