My dog is sick after skunk spray. Could it be more than kennel cough?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Male | neutered | 1 year and 8 months old | 60 lbs

My dog is dying, he was sprayed my skunk on sat night. Won't eat, drink, or walk. He is coughing and gaging and puking yellow stuff.. The vet said it was kennel cough, but he has a fever.. He said it was not possibile for a skunk to make a dog sick other then the smell and stuff. Knew nothing about Heinz anemia.

Your Dog needs to be seen again by your veterinarian and more investigations are required to understand what is going on. The signs you are describing are compatible with an respiratory tract infection. Chest radiographs and antibiotics are required as soon as possible. Blood test can be added if there is any suspicion of anemia.
