My dog is sick after vaccinations. Is it a delayed reaction?

It could be a reaction. A dog can have vaccine reactions at any point in life. Reactions usually occur within 24-48 hours after vaccination. For the diarrhea, withhold food for 12-24 hours then feed a bland diet (plain, boiled boneless chicken and plain white rice) in small, frequent amounts until the stool is normal. Transition slowly to the regular diet. If t doesn't resolve, see your veterinarian. In the future, separate the vaccines to determine which vaccine caused the reaction. Your veterinarian can pretreat with an antihistamine to avoid reactions. Call your veterinarian and report the possible reaction.

Hello, sorry to hear about Kai. Yes, similar to humans, pets may be a bit under the weather after being vaccinated. This is typically self limiting and they should be back to their normal selfs in the morning. More concerning signs for a vaccine reaction may include a swollen face, hives, vomiting and decreased appetite. If you note any of these then have him evaluated by his veterinarian. If it has been longer than this, it is likely unrelated to the vaccines that a good reason to have Saski evaluated by your veterinarian to ensure that there is not something else going on. Good luck! I’m sorry to hear about Pancho! This could be a true vaccine reaction (allergic response to vaccine) though usually I see vomiting, diarrhea, collapse, or other signs. This almost always starts within 24-48 hours after a vaccine. Pain, fever, and lethargy are considered a “normal” response to vaccines- although we of course don’t like it and want to treat it. This usually starts 12-48 hours after the vaccine. This is not a true vaccine reaction and these patients should continue to be vaccinated normally. Often they just need an anti-inflammatory pain medication for a couple days. Or finally, perhaps this is coincidence and something else entirely is going on- not related to the shot. This is especially possible if it all started 3 or more days after the shot. Definitely see a vet to get a good exam and I hope that Pancho is feeling better soon!

I would recommend that you have Dahlia examined by a vet. Poor appetite and vomiting are not likely related to vaccines administered 3 weeks ago. There can be lots of causes for this, such as dietary intolerance or indiscretion, food allergy, intestinal parasites, GI blockage, gastroenteritis, bacterial or viral infection, IBD, pancreatitis, among others. The vet will do a thorough examination and may recommend diagnostics such as x-rays or bloodwork.

I would recommend calling your veterinarian tonight and letting them know that Wolfie is not feeling great. They may prescribed him some anti-inflammatory medication, fluids or anti-nausea medication to help him feel a little better. Good luck!

Puppy's getting sleepy after their shots is a normal reaction to vaccinations. They can also have a low grade fever and/or one bout of vomiting/diarrhea normally that are no cause for concern. The concern arises when your pet is severely lethargic, not eating, non-responsive, pale gums, or excessive vomiting/diarrhea. If you notice any of these symptoms then it is best to take puppy to a vet asap for immediate care, because a mores serious vaccine reaction is occurring at that point.
