Dog sick after grooming: shaking, bumps, vomiting, diarrhea. What to do?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Small (up to 22lb) | Female | spayed | 13 lbs

Hi, my dog came home from the groomer Friday evening and seemed fine but woke up Saturday to her shaking and whimpering. She had 6 bumps on her hind quarter area, perfectly lined up 3 on each side. Last night and today she has been vomiting and diarrhea constantly.

It definitely sounds like something is going on with Phoebe. The vomiting and diarrhea are very vague signs and could indicate several different diseases that could be going on. Based on your description of what is going on I would be suspicious of a viral infection in Phoebe or she may have gotten several treats that she isn't used to while at the groomer that have now upset her tummy. I would recommend withholding food for the next 12-24 hours. If she is still sick after fasting then she needs to go to the vet. She may need blood work and/or X-rays performed and your vet may recommend fluid therapy if she has become dehydrated. Your vet can also prescribe some nausea medication to help stop the vomiting and antibiotics and a probiotic to clear up the diarrhea. I hope Phoebe is back to herself soon!
