My Shar Pei has bumps after flea treatment. Allergic reaction?

Poor Savage! It sounds like he could be suffering an allergic reaction, and that could be due to the flea spray and powder. Sergeant isn't a very good brand of flea protectant, and the poor quality brands can and do cause allergic reactions. I would take him into the vet first thing in the morning, he may need steroids to help control the reaction. While there, you can get a much better quality flea treatment for him such as Revolution or Advantage. I hope this helps!

Allergies, either to something in the environment or less often to food, would be the most common cause of itching if Charlie is on a prescription flea preventative. He may have a secondary skin infection as well since you are feeling bumps. Mange can cause hair loss but usually isn’t significantly itchy.

Hello sorry to hear about Reishi. That area of his belly looks like an infection now more so than an allergic reaction. Especially since he is having pustules. Fleas tend to cause an allergic reaction and a secondary skin infection, so if Reishi did have an allergic reaction to fleas he may now have a secondary skin infection. I would ensure he is not licking at the area to the best of your ability, and I would keep the area clean of urine and feces to the best of you ability. Ultimately, I think Reishi is going to need medications to treat his infection and he should be seen by his veterinarian soon. Best of luck!

Hello. Harley is having a significant allergic reaction, possibly from the shampoo, possibly from something else. You may have inadvertently left some shampoo on his skin & coat, so I would rebathe him in lukewarm water & no soap. Make sure you rinse multiple times to make sure all shampoo is removed. If he is not uncomfortable, you can just watch him as it may take a day or two for the bumps to subside. If he is very itchy or uncomfortable & chewing at his skin, please see your veterinarian. After a bad flea infestation and reaction it is best to have your Vet treat the skin with a course of antibiotics and steroids. A skin infection usually results from all the scratching from the fleas. This is the quickest way to resolving Brutus's skin issues and to make him feel better. You can try the cream but I wouldn't want him to lick it and it will get stuck in his fur. Plus that is a very large area for cream. I hope this helps and I wish Brutus the best!

This is probably caused by an allergic reaction. first of all make sure you de-flea Ace regularly every month with a high quality spot on (ex. Advantage) as fleas are by far the most common reason for these reactions. If the fleas are not the problem, it could be an allergic reaction to food or an environmental factor. this is more complicated to treat and will sometimes require medications such as Steroids, anti histamines or Apoquel in order to stop the allergy.

There are a few causes for the bumps you are seeing. Fleas are still a possibility. Bravecto is an excellent preventative, but it can still take 3 months for all of the fleas in Elli Mae's environment to die. She could still have a bacterial infection. Sometimes these infections need a second antibiotic or a longer round to effectively treat. I have occasionally used antibiotics for 3-4 weeks to get infection under control. Unfortunately, apoquel does not work very well on an as-needed basis. It works much better when given regularly. It is typically prescribed for twice daily use and tapering to once daily use. It is safe for long-term use. You can also try a medicated shampoo as a treatment, like Dechra DermaBenSs Shampoo which will help to flush the follicles. If the problem continues for another week, I would recommend a re-check with your vet.
