My dog shakes, pants, and urinates a lot. Is it a UTI or low sugar?

Hi and thanks for posting! High blood sugar can also be a sign of diabetes in dogs. I would have a urinalysis run on Tallula to see if glucose is in the urine. Glucose in the blood and urine is a diagnosis of diabetes. It is common for pancreatitis to occur in diabetic patients. I would follow your veterinarian's advise to come back for an ultrasound to check for pancreatitis and I would see if her urine can be checked for glucose. The most common diseases that cause dogs to drink and urinate more are urinary tract infections, kidney disease, liver disease, diabetes, cushings disease, and addisons disease. If the urinalysis was negative for infection then, hopefully, the bloodwork will help diagnose the problem. Hopefully, the bloodwork will be back in the morning. Hope she feels better soon!

A UTI is certainly a possibility, but other concerns such as a kidney infection is also possible. I would encourage you to have her evaluated by your veterinarian as soon as possible. A UTI is always possible, and it's always best to bring him to the vet or bring in a sample of his urine in for testing if you suspect that may be the case and to rule out any more serious health issues. Stress and anxiety (especially if the storms are bringing thunder) may also be causing him to hide or not want to go outside. Looking into something such as a thundershirt, playing a soothing radio station or talk show, distracting with treats or puzzle toys, and taking him out when there are breaks in the storm may all help him relax a bit. If he is very distraught, talking with your vet to see if medication to help him relax would be useful is another option. Hello, yes these sings if persistent could be indicative of certain deseases such as cushings or diabetes. Other causes of these signs may include something more benign such as a UTI. If he continues to have these signs or if you note increased urinations, lethargy and loss of appetite than he should be evaluated by his veterinarian.
