Dog shaking head, scratching ear, yellow-green discharge. What to do?

It sounds like Gypsy may have an ear infection. This is a very common condition in dogs and is treated with special ear cleaners and medication for bacteria or yeast, depending on what type of organism is causing the infection. I'd recommend taking Gypsy in to the vet right away (although an emergency clinic is unnecessary) for evaluation and to get treatment started. Best of luck!

The signs you are describing are indicative of an ear infection. Sometimes, these can resolve with topical over the counter treatment, but antibiotics or antifungal medication may be necessary. I recommend using an ear cleaning solution or wipes to clean the ear once or twice a day. There are many options available in pet stores, but look out for something with a mild acid in it (salicylic acid or apple cider vinegar are good ingredients). Ear infections are very painful and usually need prescription medication to cure them. I recommend a veterinary exam and treatment. They will check the ear discharge to see if it’s from yeast, bacteria or ear mites. He may need medication to stop the itching in addition to ointment inside the ear. Ear infections can become chronic if not cleared up so please take him in for treatment soon. In the meantime you can clean the ear canal with a dog ear cleaner that you can purchase at PetCo and place him in a cone to he doesn’t scratch the ear which can make it worse. This sounds quite uncomfortable for Maybelline! Oftentimes a buildup of dark brown debris occurs with ear infections from bacteria and/or yeast. Ear cleaners can help get rid of the bigger pieces of debris, but only prescription based medications will treat the actual infection. Maybelline should see her vet so that her ears can be examined and have a cytology performed to determine the infectious agents causing her infection. From there, your vet will be able to prescribe the most appropriate medication for her.

Poor Tupac! You can’t tell what type of infection it is without a microscope. It sounds like he is in pain and I recommend to have him examined by his veterinarian. In general, you might infections are not common in dogs. Each type of infection requires a specific medication. If yellow liquid is present, this often signifies a more severe infection. Those brown clumps could also be ear mites, which itch intensely and can cause a dog to injure themselves by scratching and shaking their head. It could also be some kind of ear infection or other problem. I recommend getting her checked at your vet as soon as possible to have her ear checked to determine why she's scratching so hard and get her treated so she (and you) can get some relief soon.
