My dog had a seizure, head bobbing and unbalanced. Should I see a vet?

That sounds like Jb had a seizure. I would recommend taking him in. I like to do blood work including checking thyroid levels. I’m looking for treatable things. He also needs a thorough neurological exam to see if there are any deficits. I don’t usually place on anti-seizure medication for one seizure. I do recommend keeping a seizure log- keeping track of what they were doing, how long it lasted.. etc I have been using Royal Veterinary College App for my personal dog. Based on what you are describing, I am concerned that this is seizure activity that Romy is experiencing. When this occurs, I typically recommend a thorough physical exam and some lab work to rule out any underlying causes of seizures. During those episodes you can just make sure Romy is safe (from falling off furniture, down the stairs, or into a pool) and comfort him until the episode has passed. It is also a good idea to keep a record, or journal, of these episodes so you know how frequently they are occurring. I hope this helps. Bailey will likely be lethargic and incoordinated after this seizure and it will take a while for them to resolve. If Bailey has not been seen for these seizures by a veterinarian then I would highly recommend having Bailey examined by a vet so that the most appropriate diagnostic and treatment recommendations can be made. For now, let him rest and provide plenty of water for him. The sooner he is seen the better. Place him in a quiet area so that there are no triggers (light, noise, etc) that may set off another seizure. Other signs of seizures would be strange behavior before the seizure, the seizure itself can include shaking or tending of all the muscles, Bailey may urinate or defecate during as well. I recommend keeping a close eye on her and trying to film this if it happens again to show your vet. They can determine the cause of the seizure with blood work and more advanced imaging such as a CT scan. If seizure activity is confirmed, Bailey will likely be placed on anti-seizure medication. Poor guy. I would absolutely think about. Neurologist consult but the first thing that should be done is an exam by your regular vet and bloodwork/urinalysis done to rule out any other detectable underlying cause. Plus the neurologist will want to have you referred by your regular vet in order to see Oskar. Mainly what we want to rule out first is any underlying liver issue (hepatic encephalopathy or a liver shunt). Liver problems can for the most part be treated through your regular vet. I'm sorry that happened to your dog! It's always scary to see them disoriented. Based on what you've reported, I suspect she may have experienced a seizure. It sounds like she recovered without complication as they often do. My personal dog has epilepsy so I've seen this many times. I would record the symptoms and date on your calendar. I would consult with your veterinarian and report her symptoms (not an emergency unless she experiences another episode today). Your vet can perform a thorough exam and recommend any other diagnostics to make sure there is nothing obvious that needs treatment. Depending on what they find and if she has more episodes, appropriate treatment can be recommended.
