My dog had a rabies shot yesterday. Did it cause his seizure today?

You need to take these dogs to the vet. Rabies causing neurological signs so this could be serious. Remember, rabies is contagious to humans and it almost 100% fatal. The dogs need to be seen by a vet ASAP. Both of them.

Any time I have administered a vaccination and the animal then begins vomiting or exhibiting any other abnormal symptoms, I treat as a potential adverse vaccination reaction. I would recommend taking him back to the veterinarian that performed the vaccination to have him examined and treated for a potential vaccination reaction. That is a decision you and your veterinarian must make. There are two injections that Brody could take before his vaccination. One is called diphenhydramine and the other is dexamethasone. Dexamethasone is a steroid and this may temporarily interfere with his insulin so you must weigh out the risk versus the benefit. Obviously having a seizure after vaccinations is very concerning. This side effect is more common with the rabies vaccine than other vaccine, in most cases it resolves within 24-48 hours, as long as she is eating and walking she is fine to stay at home and just wait for it to get better soon.

He will be fine in the long term but it is possible for him to have a reaction the vaccine such as swelling or redness or vomiting or diarrhea. The best thing to do is check the records and make sure they are under the correct owner and animal name at the vet because sometimes they can have 2 files of the same animal under different owners ( yours and your parents) and not realize they are the same. From there ask them to adjust the reminds so you only have him being due in 1-3 years from now based on your areas laws

It sounds like seizure activity to me based on your description. I suggest you monitor him closely and if it happens again try to video the episode with your phone so you can show your vet. Some dogs have one seizure and then never again. Some have one and then start having them very frequently. Some have one and then have them infrequently. I would not be concerned necessarily with one episode but if it happens again you need to speak to your vet about a work-up to try and figure out the underlying cause of the seizures.
