My dog took ETOZOX. Can he still have a seizure hours later?

Yes, it is a non steroidal anti inflammatory (NSAID). This class of medication is commonly used to treat the discomfort of hip dysplasia and other joint conditions. Depending on the degree of dysplasia or discomfort, Bruno may need additional treatments or supplements. This would be a concern to discuss further with your veterinarian.

Amoxitab is a mild form of penicillin so as long as it was the right dose for Lucky and he has no history of allergy I don't think it was related. Seizures in older dogs that have never had epilepsy usually indicate an underlying condition such as a liver problem or brain issue. Keep a really close eye and if he goes into another seizure I would go to your vet as an emergency, otherwise make a routine appointment to have a general health check.

Some people do notice lethargy and difficulty walking with levetiracetam, but in general these side effects improve after a few days to weeks. If Milo's seizures started recently I would also worry that the lethargy and trouble with balance could be signs of neurologic disease. Seizures in an older dog are most commonly related to a lesion in the brain such as a tumor. I would recommend rechecking with your veterinarian to have Milo examined - you may want to discuss additional tests like an MRI to determine a cause for the seizures or discuss alternative anti convulsants.

The fact that he cannot use his legs is very concerning as that could be the result of the seizures or be unrelated. I highly recommend that you have Max evaluated by a veterinarian as soon as possible for further assessment and treatment. Diagnostics that will be recommended will include bloodwork and advanced imaging such as an MRI. It is unlikely that the seizures were caused by the Excedrin. We do not know why young dogs get seizures it is a so-called idiopathic disorder. It is likely that your dog will need to take phenobarbital for a long time. Your vet may decide after a while to try out whether a lower phenobarbital level is sufficient to control the seizures. A low SDMA is normal for puppies.

Anti-anxiety medication, depending on which one, can be hard on the liver, depending on the medication, dose and frequency it is being used. Most anti-anxiety medications will depress the brain so tend to not cause seizures, but they do affect the brain so some animals can respond with seizures, but this is unlikely. Most of these medications will cause sedation, and the equivalent to 'drowsiness' that a human might feel. If you are seeing seizures or lethargy/weakness with the medications I recommend having your dog seen by a vet and checking blood levels. Also, I notice you have your dog listed as unneutered. If your dog is having anxiety, getting him neutered can help reduce stress and anxiety and would be recommended as part of an anti-anxiety treatment plan. Discuss this with your vet. Hi there and thanks for posting on Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Phenoleptil is phenobarbital which is commonly used to help prevent seizure activity in dogs. Non steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs can be used such as Previcox (Firocoxib) or Deramaxx (Deracoxib). Rimadyl (Carprofen) should be avoided due to increased risk of liver toxicity. Opioid medications such as Tramadol are used with caution as these can cause increased sedation while on phenobarbital in some pets. Depending on what the cause of the pain may be, a drug such as Gabapentin which is typically used to neuropathic pain, may be a safe option. I hope this helps!
