Why is my dog scratching his eye, watery, and has eye boogers?

Hi Jason, it sounds as Louie is either having an eye infection or an eye injury (could be from a scratch or a branch for example), it's sounds quite severe and it bothers him a lot, I would strongly advise that you take him to the vet in order to get it checked, if there is no damage to the eye - a prescription steroids/antibiotic eye drop should solve the problem

It's most likely an eye infection, possibly conjunctivitis. Taking him to the vet now is great, before he damages the eye teslf by rubbing and scratching. Your vet will do an ophthalmic exam, part of which may be putting a dye in his eyes and examining them under a black light to look for scratches on his cornea. Based of the results of the exam, it will allow your vet to know just what is going on and how best to treat it.

As this condition is likely uncomfortable and can progress, I recommend having him seen by a vet as soon as possible. Your vet can take a sample of any discharge in the ear to determine if the itching is caused by a bacterial or fungal infection and recommend an appropriate treatment. This could be due to an eye injury or conditions such as a corneal laceration, corneal ulcer, conjunctivitis, dry eye (also known as KCS), among many other conditions. It's not separation anxiety. It sounds as Louie is suffering from an eye infection, it is relatively common in dogs. you will need to take him to the vet the first chance you get, the vet will check the eyes, if it is indeed a simple eye infection your vet will prescribe an antibiotic eye drops that will probably solve the problem in no time. antibiotic eye drops are prescription only, there is no way around getting to the vet in order to get them.

Oso likely has an eye infection and I recommend to have him seen by his veterinarian. He will likely get antibiotic eye drops and the doctor may check for a scratch on the cornea as well. Make sure Oso is not rubbing at the eye as this can make it worse. An Elizabethan collar can help to keep the eye safe. I hope this is helpful and please feel free to post any additional questions.
