My dog keeps scratching his red, puffy eyes. Is it allergies or mites?

  This could be an allergy but it could also be mites that are causing this. You should have your vet examine the skin. He may want to do a skin scrape to look for mites. If Denzel has allergies, a food trial may be initiated, if it is mites, your vet will likely give Denzel an injection to kill them or prescribe tablets.

  The skin near Chance’s eye does appear irritated. He could have a skin infection, allergies or even a skin parasite like Demodex mites. I would recommend making an appointment to see your veterinarian. They might recommend taking a sample to look for mites or they may go ahead and prescribe some medication.

  Hi, and thanks for your question.
  That is likely to be due to a mild to moderate conjunctivitis, probably secondary to an allergy or infection. A check up would be needed as appropriate treatment would include antibiotics and anti-inflammatory eye drops. Corneal injuries must be ruled out as well.

  This does not look like a bug bite but is probably some type of allergic reaction. If it's only affecting one eye I would be concerned about an insect sting or be worried Lucky may have gotten something in his eye. If it is affecting both eyes it may be an allergic conjunctivitis or an irritant that got into his eyes, like some sort of chemical. Try your best to keep him from rubbing it anymore. If this redness persists throughout the day then I would recommend taking Lucky into the vet to have his eye examined. Excessive scratching of the eye can cause a scratch on the cornea (the outer surface of the eye) and this can be serious.
