My dog had SCC surgery. Now a lump shrinks and grows. Is it serious?

If conventional treatment has not prevented Lacy from getting at the mass, then have her seen by your veterinarian. She may need to have it surgically removed. Once that is done, it can be submitted for pathology to make sure it isn't anything to worry about. It could be a benign skin mass (sebaceous adenoma) that is common in older dogs. Removing it does not guarantee it will not regrow or keep others from popping up.

My hunch tells me it is likely a sebaceous gland cyst (benign tumor); however, it is always best to get masses tested through your vet to be sure. Masses like this are often removed during another surgical procedure, such as a teeth cleaning. Wow. Sebastian is an old guy. I'm glad he's doing well. Sometimes fluid filled cysts will seem to resolve in thier own but it may recur. Without surgery to remove it (which I understand why not) it is likely to recur. If it gets too big or or bothering Sebastian your vet may be able to drain fluid once in a while to make it more comfortable. But these usually will come and go.

This mass is quite large. I would definitely have your vet do an aspirated and cytology of it while it is there. The fact that it is changing in size makes me concerned that it could be a salivary mucoceole, an infection, or even a mast cell tumor (cancerous but least likely). These can all be serious and some may need medication and or surgery. If it is a salivary mucoceole they may just recommend to continue to watch it since it is getting small sometimes, but I would rather know for sure what it is. I hope this helps!

This could be a seroma from an injury, a cyst, abscess or a tumor. Cysts and abscesses need to be drained by a vet. If your vet suspects a tumor, he will do a fine needle aspirate to determine whether it is a harmless lipoma, which does not need to be removed unless it is ulcerating or bothers the dog due to its location or size, or another tumor that needs to be removed. Please make an appointment with your veterinarian for an exam of the mass.

I would recommend that you have a vet check out this lump on Snowball. I am concerned that the pigmentation may mean that it could be a cancerous growth. Dogs can get melanoma, and mast cell tumors can get large and shrink repeatedly. The vet may do a needle biopsy to collect cells for examination under a microscope or recommend removing the entire lump to submit to a lab for a final diagnosis.

This looks like a skin mass or tumor. Sometimes a benign growth or cyst can have some material inside that you can squeeze out like this. Unfortunately it also could be a malignant mass. I would recommend having your vet take a look - they may want to take a sample using a small needle to help determine what it is.
