Why did my senior dog's throat lump disappear? Will it return?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Small (up to 22lb) | Male | neutered | 20 years and 7 months old | 15 lbs

My Sebastian who is 20 developed a large fluid filled mass by his throat. It continued to grow but today I noticed it is gone!! Where did it go and will it come back? He is too fragile for surgery.

Wow. Sebastian is an old guy. I'm glad he's doing well. Sometimes fluid filled cysts will seem to resolve in thier own but it may recur. Without surgery to remove it (which I understand why not) it is likely to recur. If it gets too big or or bothering Sebastian your vet may be able to drain fluid once in a while to make it more comfortable. But these usually will come and go.
