How to help my adopted dog scared to come inside after potty?

Dogs are situational learners and can sometimes make some very weird connections. I recommend to start clicker training her. You will also need some very high value treats or a high value toy. Whichever she thinks is better. Basically start in the house near the doorway with you and reward her for coming near you. Gradually work your way out the door. What you are trying to do is produce a positive association. It is very important that you remain calm and try not to get frustrated her as she will pick up on negative energy. You can also start feeding her in the back yard or playing out there to continue the positive association. Also give her positive reinforcement for looking at you frequently or when she is afraid. This will teach her to look to you for action. This will be a slow process. Be patient and keep her on the medication for now. Once she knows that the clicker sound means a reward is coming, start by having her in the crate and you sit near the opening. Hold the reward toward her but don’t look directly at her (looking at them can be intimidating). As soon as she makes any motion toward the reward, click and treat her. She will gain confidence and you will work on drawing her further and further out of the crate. This is going to be a slow process to have patience and don’t get frustrated. Most of the time this is something that happens when they are scared or nervous about their surroundings. This is certainly not uncommon. A few things that you can try are going very slowly and reward progress. As your dog makes progress going outside, go ahead and reward Petrus with praise and also treats. Try to find fun things to do outside that your dog may like such as playing ball so that he associates going outside with something good. Before you know it he will get used to being outside. Poor Luna! I'm sorry to hear that she has been so anxious since the fire this weekend. Try to determine what may be a high-value reward to her, be it a special treat or toy and try to use this object to coax her inside. Ultimately, time, patience and rewarding positive behavior (i.e. she walked closer to the door today than she did yesterday) will be the best way to slowly remedy this situation. If she seems anxious inside of the house or is still having issues coming through the door in a few weeks, it may be worth discussing anxiety medications with Luna's vet. Poor tucker, it sounds like he has severe anxiety issues, unfortunately scolding him when he came back seems to have triggered a real crisis for him. Calming supplements, thundershirts and pheromone products can all help as can bonding him with a more assured buddy dog for regular walks.

Poor Lillian. Make every effort to get her outside to potty. Also work on making her more comfortable. It's a big change for her. Once she is comfortable in the house, you can begin trying to get her comfortable outside. It's possible something has scared her in the past and now she has developed a negative association. You may try to counteract this by creating a positive association. Begin by having a high value treat or toy. Start playing/a training session inside the house by the door way. Do this for a few days. Once Lillian seems comfortable playing by the door way, toss the toy or treat outside and allow her to retrieve it and come back inside. Do this until Lillian is comfortable. Then move outside by the doorway way. Gradually move further and further away from the door way. Then begin gradually decreasing the play time and just hanging outside with her. Try not to leave her outside unattended until she seems comfortable. I hope this helps.
